Theft by Staff

Despite all of your efforts to keep the exterior of your building safe from criminals, it is a sad fact that there are often cases whereby the criminals work in your business. This can range from theft of stock and cash, to stealing valuable data. As a business owner you should have systems in place to negate the risk of staff theft, so here are some tips from Crime Response Team to try and avoid the issue wherever possible.

• Make sure that all employees are aware of the implications of stealing from you, including dismissal and prosecution. This can deter many incidents of internal theft.
• Carry out regular and random stock checks.
• CCTV inside your premises is an excellent deterrent.
• Have a random bag check policy.
• Be conscious of the implications of staff working without supervision either from home or after hours.
